Cartoon Network Enters the Grid: Quick thoughts | #branding

Cartoon Network Logo, Before and After

(Quick) Initial thoughts: Has Cartoon Network lost its soul?

I have to admit that I loved Cartoon Network even before having the great opportunity to work with them because of their playfulness and fun they had, (not to mention one grew up watching it) This rebrand by Brand New School has taken away the integral part of CN's identity; the connection with the children that laugh and love Cartoon Network for its quirkiness and fun. Now it just seems like nothing but another logo that has joined the grid system hype. Although in terms of print, it'll use one less ink colour for the logo...
Not entirely sure why the tagline of "CHECK it" has to be in different fonts if their logo was steering towards being uniformed, their business card mock up just seems so...corporate. All these different elements appear to be fighting for attention with each other.
The animation, also done by Brand New School, though cries out MTV, is brilliant, and completes CN's move towards digital devices with original content. Without this animation, however, the rebrand may have failed me at first sight. What do you think?
